Learn the business, don’t take the short cuts!

Some weeks ago I read a post by Mike Filsaime, where he pointed out that future Internet marketers don’t want to learn how to build a solid business system any longer. You have certainly heard the saying: ”Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach him fishing and you feed him for life”. Mike had noticed that people don’t want to learn fishing. Very few wants to buy courses on Internet marketing but very many buy all different software programs that allow them to just push a button to build sites, drive traffic to sites, write articles and so on.

In a way this is promising. We who know the business and can build a lasting solid Internet business from the ground, will remain very few, even if there is an increasing amount of people every day who wants to compete with us and become financially independent. There is one thing I know for sure. Firm knowledge about building sites, drive traffic, write articles and evaluate niches can not be replaced by clicking on a button. There are some very good software programs out there that can save you some time doing all that, but you will always need to learn how it’s done.

I am afraid that the ”smart guys” promoting these fantastic ”push a button and get rich” software programs give false hope to all the people who thinks it’s too complicated to really learn the business and find it very attempting to take these short cuts. The worst thing is that the programs sometimes prove themselves to work for a little while but the ones I have tried usually don’t last long. This is probably because every one is using them extensively.

We all know how important it is to stay focused on the different tasks needed to get everything going. All the time I ask myself “Is what I am doing now, directly going to result in more traffic or more earnings? If not, I immediately stop doing it and start something that directly has a positive effect on my bank account. We need to think like this to stand up against the enormous information overflow we are exposed to. These “smart software programs” also distract us and prevent us from doing the necessary things.

Forget about the short cuts and get yourself a solid base of knowledge about how to build your business. It takes time but it’s the best way to do it. I started to look into this industry back in the beginning of 2005. It wasn’t until the end of 2006 I could see some success. During 2007 I have been able to confirm that I can successfully launch sites and drive traffic to them. It’s really good to sit back and see all the traffic while the bank account is filling up, even while I sleep.
